SH2 Waihi Safety Improvements

Enhancing road safety between Ōmokoroa and Waihi

The SH2 Waihi Safety Improvements project was part of a major infrastructure upgrade designed to improve traffic safety and efficiency along one of the Bay of Plenty’s key transport routes.

Crossroads Civil worked alongside HEBS Construction to deliver a range of civil and roading improvements, including road widening, cement stabilisation, and pavement rehabilitation.

Over a three-year period, the team completed works across multiple sections of SH2, ensuring long-term durability and compliance with New Zealand Transport Agency standards.

Scope of Work

  • Road shoulder construction: Widening existing roads between Ōmokoroa and Waihi.

  • Cement stabilisation: Strengthening pavement structure for improved load-bearing performance.

  • Subgrade improvement: Installation of geogrids and undercutting to stabilise weak ground.

  • Roading & rehabilitation: Full-width pavement reconstruction and roundabout construction.

  • Surfacing: Supply and placement of pre-mixed cement, chipseal surfacing, and basecourse aggregate.

Outcome

The project improved road safety, resilience, and efficiency along a high-traffic regional corridor.
Through precise stabilisation and pavement rehabilitation, Crossroads Civil contributed to safer travel and reduced long-term maintenance requirements for this vital Bay of Plenty transport link.
